Extraordinary Crocodylus Porosus skull : the sea Crocodile is a species from the Crocodylidae family. This beautiful reproduction, found in the back of an old zoology workshop in Balikpapan during a journey to Borneo, has been purchased following multiple negotiations and glasses of Arak, the famous Indonesian alcohol. This crocodile species normally spends the humid tropical season in swamps and rivers, then joins the estuaries during dry seasons, sometimes going even up to the sea. It is the biggest living reptile, measuring sometimes up to 7m long ! Master of the mysteries of life and death, guardian of all knowledge, lord of primordial waters and of the night for many Cultures, it is told that he is the one who devours the sun every evening… In Borneo, it was used to adorn traditional boxes with this animal’s skull, a totem during ceremonies, in the means of bringing protection, strength, knowledge and wealth to the village and its inhabitants. Its exceptional size, its realistic patina, will make this object the master piece of a Curiosities Cabinet or will decorate beautifully a contemporary universe.
