Sandstone obelisk from the 18th century – L

199,00

Beautiful obelisk made of sandstone, a faithful reproduction of the obelisk that graced the sideboards of mansions in the XIX century. This statue became very trendy in Paris when Mehemet Ali, Viceroy of Egypt, offered the Luxor Obelisk to France as a sign of goodwill and it was erected at Place de la Concorde in 1836. Handmade and sculpted by our artisans, its natural aged and time-worn patina gives it authenticity. Some stones lie in our workshops for months to get the desired patina. Note that the magic of this stone is in the changes that occur when the master craftsman wants to sculpt: he must wet the stone to make it crumbly and soft for the blade. And when it dries, it becomes "hard as stone" again!
